SELECTION ANNOUNCEMENT FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS ADMISSION TO PhD COURSES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ROME TOR VERGATA ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/2019
Disclaimer: this is a translation of the selection announcement for PhD Courses. Its purpose is to provide information to foreign students. It has no legal value. The only official and legally binding source is the original Italian announcement
Selection process for foreign candidates (Non Italian citizens) for academic year 2018/2019 to PhD courses is open.
Deadline for applications will close on Tuesday 6 March 2018 at 4 pm (CEST). Foreign candidates who want to apply shall fill in the registration form available at the following link:

Some PhD courses may require specific admission conditions, duly reported on the web pages of the related courses, also related to language requirement to carry out both the selection test and/or educational activities (degree awarded).
At the end of online process, applicants will be requested to attach the following mandatory documents (max. 25 MB total size, pdf format):
a. Curriculum Vitae with the mandatory indication of the degree awarded, the date, the list of exams taken with relative rate/score – written in English;
b. Motivational letter and research project of max 1 page A4 size – written in English;
c. List of publications, if any – written in English;
d. Valid passport OR national identity card.
In addition to the above-mentioned document, applicants must provide two letters of recommendation from university professors, that should be submitted by email to the PhD Coordinator of the selected course by March 6th 2018. Please refer to the template available at the link below, please note that the following format is just a suggestion.

Finally, applicants with a non-Italian degree must submit to the PhD Secretary office the Declaration of Value (Dichiarazione di valore) within six months following the registration, penalty of exclusion from the selection process.
Grounds for exclusion
• Applicants who will not provide all the documents and the information as above requested.
• Candidates who will not be graduated by October 31st, 2018.
• Candidates whose academic qualification awarded abroad will not be recognized as equivalent to an Italian qualification. Such assessment will be carried out by the Admission Committee or by the Coordinator of the chosen PhD course.
• Applicants with a non-Italian degree that do not submit to the PhD Secretary office the Declaration of Value
Evaluation process
• After a first positive evaluation, applicants will be tested via Skype interview or in presence if possible. The timetable interviews of admitted candidates will be published at the following webpage: http://dottorati.uniroma2.it/index.php/it/english
• After the interview, Coordinators or the Admission Committee of the PhD courses will proceed with the selection process and fill in the list of the suitable candidates.
• Candidates will then finally be admitted to the PhD courses only if:
a) They hold a scholarship funded by their own Country OR they have their own source of income. In this case, before enrollment procedure it is mandatory to provide documentation stating the source and amount of funding.
b) They hold a joint supervision agreement with a foreign university in accordance with the guidelines available at the following webpage: http://dottorati.uniroma2.it/index.php/it/english
c) They have been awarded a University of Tor Vergata scholarship of the chosen PhD Program
Once enrolled, the PhD students will also have the opportunity to participate to the Mobility Erasmus Plus Program, prior an international agreement.

This letter should be submitted by email to the PhD Coordinator of the selected course by March 10th 2017.

Also those candidates who will not be graduated by October 31st, 2017 will be excluded.There will also be excluded from the selection . Candidates will be excluded if their academic qualification awarded abroad has not been declared by the as equivalent to an Italian qualification the course’s admission committee as equivalent to an Italian qualification by the Admission Committee or by the Coordinator of the chosen PhD course.

Il Prof. Jorge Angeles, Professor di Ingegneria Meccanica presso la McGill University (Montreal) terrà una serie seminari su argomenti di sintesi cinematica e simulazione di sistemi multibody

L’uso delle Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) nel calcolo scientico ad alte prestazioni e attualmente una realta’ consolidata e molto di usa. La maggior parte dei siti nella lista Top500 utilizzano attualmente nodi accelerati con dispositivi di questo tipo, non solo per via delle prestazioni assolute ma anche a causa del basso consumo energetico, un fattore determinante nella competizione verso Exascale computing, ovvero la realizzazione del primo calcolatore capace di eseguire 1018 operazioni aritmetiche al secondo. In questo incontro attueremo una panoramica delle attivita’ multidisciplinari insite nell’uso delle GPU per il calcolo scientifico, in particolare:

• gli aspetti informatici di architettura delle macchine, gli ambienti di programmazione, e le tecniche di progettazione del software per calcolo su queste piattaforme;
• le tecniche matematiche di algebra lineare numerica che sono necessarie per sfruttare appieno le caratteristiche delle GPU; alcuni esempi applicativi, dalla simulazione uidodinamica, alla crittogra

Mr. Felice is Manager of the Global Powertrain NVH and Systems CAE engineering Dept. at Ford Motor Company. He heads a large team of CAE engineers located in North America, Europe, Australia and South America. Mr. Felice is responsible for all the analytical support of powertrain development programs required to deliver best NVH refinement with respect to Smoothness, Quietness and Sound Quality.
As a global leader, Mr. Felice is also responsible for establishing common analytical methods and processes across all Ford global engineering organizations

Relatore: Ing. Claudio Autore. Il seminario sarà tenuto da Claudio Autore, ingegnere meccanico che sta sviluppando la propria tesi di dottorato presso la Sede Ferrari S.p.A. di Maranello (MO) nell’ambito del progetto di ricerca “Metodiche CAE Multibody per la progettazione e l’ottimizzazione di trasmissioni meccaniche” del Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell’Impresa “Mario Lucertini”. La sua presentazione avrà come obiettivo quello di illustrare tramite esempi applicativi come le moderne tecniche di simulazione basate sull’approccio Multibody Dynamics vengano impiegate per lo sviluppo di motopropulsori. In particolare, verranno affrontate e discusse le problematiche legate alla modellazione e simulazione dei sistemi di distribuzione per motori ad elevate prestazioni. Ampio spazio verrà riservato alla disamina delle metodologie e degli strumenti informatici professionali impiegati nelle aziende di punta del settore automobilistico.

Il mercato dei videogiochi ha consentito di sviluppare schede video ad altissime prestazioni; la piattaforma CUDA di NVIDIA consente di beneficiarne anche in applicazioni di nicchia come il CAE (Computer Aided Engineering). Un semplice laptop di nuova generazione può funzionare come un cluster con centinaia di cores. Il workshop è diviso in due parti: un corso di base per apprendere le tecniche di programmazione CUDA e due applicazioni CAE in cui gli sviluppatori mostreranno l’impatto di questa tecnologia sul supercalcolo.
 

Si rende noto che è stato pubblicato il bando per il concorso a tutti i Dottorati di Ricerca dell’Università degli Studi di Roma di “Tor Vergata”, tra cui il Dottorato in “Ingegneria per la Progettazione e Produzione Industriale”.

Data dell’esame di ammissione: dal 19 al 23 settembre 2016 con preavviso di almeno 15 giorni sul sito: http://dottorati.uniroma2.it – sezione calendario prove.
Possono partecipare tutti coloro che siano già in possesso delle Lauree Specialistiche indicate nel bando stesso o che ne saranno in possesso alla data del 31 ottobre 2016.
Si invitano, pertanto, i laureati ed i laureandi a considerare con interesse la loro eventuale partecipazione al concorso che consente di accedere ad un titolo di PhD con un impegno triennale per il quale sono previste delle borse di studio come indicato nel bando stesso.
E’ importante segnalare agli interessati che per poter partecipare è necessario presentare una proposta di progetto di ricerca da allegare alla domanda.
